Bowie my Hero
This is a bit of a different post today as it is far more heartfelt and personal. I apologize that this is not about a makeup review or fashion haul, but it is more about who I am today, and who I have been, and a man who helped shape it.
For some people they are affected by every celebrity death, and have a hard time with the passing on of those they have watched on screen, or listened to on the radio. I am not one of those people. I usually think well you had a good life, and now it is your time. I move on and go about my business. Today was so very different.
Today I was given to memory of sitting on a scratchy sofa, watching Labyrinth on an old Television above a noisy gay bar, and making out with a tall blond that drove a cab. We huddled up on that sofa in his dismal apartment enjoying every moment of The Goblin King as he juggled crystal balls around in his hand. We laughed, smiled, loved, and made our way to the mattress on the floor at some point. That tall blond then let out a sigh and this line "I wish I had his clothes".
I always adored men that like flamboyant clothes, makeup, and had in their heart certain feminine qualities while still claiming their manhood. I could hang around them all day, and I feel like Bowie may have been my first realization of my love of men that could wear a striking blue eye shadow while managing to chop wood. I fell for it so often, but never ended up with it. I was starstruck by them that they lived in both worlds. They were from Mars, Starmen, and Rebels.
David Bowie gave me a love for being different, breaking society rules, and enjoying all the men around me. I am not sure he meant to, but he did. I still love makeup, fashion, and even though I keep to one man I still appreciate a man who has that bit of flair. I will always see Bowie in them.
Thank you Starman for giving me every gift you brought into my life. For tight leather pants, fabulous hair, for being my hero now and forever.
I cried today for a hero. I cried today because you left us and became a bigger part of the Universe of Fabulosity!
